Sandra Swift and the Cyclone Gun (The Adventures of Sandra Swift Book 4)

(as of Aug 11,2018 13:06:37 UTC – Details)

This is the fourth book in the series.

A powerful force is moving across Europe, smashing into buildings and tearing people apart. In desperation, European authorities send a representative to Swift Enterprises on a mission to seek help in finding an answer. But, before a solution can be found, the same force begins attacking the United States. Not only that but Mary Swift becomes one of several people kidnapped by unknown assailants.

For Sandra Swift the abduction of her mother is the opening act to an adventure which will include aerial missile attacks, snipers and sophisticated death traps. Accompanied by friends old and new, Sandy finds herself continually at risk; ultimately coming face to face with an enemy in possession of a super-weapon powerful enough to destroy Swift Enterprises.

Storm Surge Hazards in a Changing Climate: Approaches for the Efficient Probabilistic Characterization of Tropical Cyclone-Generated Storm Surge Hazards

$80.00 - $72.53

(as of Aug 11,2018 10:00:23 UTC – Details)

The paucity of the historical record confounds the efficient probabilistic characterization of storm surge hazards. This book presents efficient parametric and nonparametric simulation techniques for evaluating the frequency-of-occurrence of storm surge hazards under stationary and non-stationary climate scenarios. Given the prohibitive computational requirements of state-of-the-art basin-scale hydrodynamic simulations, the effective implementation of a stochastic simulation framework requires the introduction of a new paradigm: optimal function recovery, rather than repeated direct hydrodynamic simulations, via sparse grid-supported multivariate regression functions. The methods presented in the book are directly applicable to other multi-parameter hazards such as earthquakes and riverine floods.Storm Surge Hazards in a Changing Climate

Sub-seasonal to Seasonal Prediction: The Gap Between Weather and Climate Forecasting

$120.00 - $114.00

(as of Aug 11,2018 04:50:12 UTC – Details)

The Gap Between Weather and Climate Forecasting: Sub-seasonal to Seasonal Prediction is an ideal reference for researchers and practitioners across the range of disciplines involved in the science, modeling, forecasting and application of this new frontier in sub-seasonal to seasonal (S2S) prediction. It provides an accessible, yet rigorous, introduction to the scientific principles and sources of predictability through the unique challenges of numerical simulation and forecasting with state-of-science modeling codes and supercomputers. Additional coverage includes the prospects for developing applications to trigger early action decisions to lessen weather catastrophes, minimize costly damage, and optimize operator decisions.

The book consists of a set of contributed chapters solicited from experts and leaders in the fields of S2S predictability science, numerical modeling, operational forecasting, and developing application sectors. The introduction and conclusion, written by the co-editors, provides historical perspective, unique synthesis and prospects, and emerging opportunities in this exciting, complex and interdisciplinary field.

  • Contains contributed chapters from leaders and experts in sub-seasonal to seasonal science, forecasting and applications
  • Provides a one-stop shop for graduate students, academic and applied researchers, and practitioners in an emerging and interdisciplinary field
  • Offers a synthesis of the state of S2S science through the use of concrete examples, enabling potential users of S2S forecasts to quickly grasp the potential for application in their own decision-making
  • Includes a broad set of topics, illustrated with graphic examples, that highlight interdisciplinary linkages

The Deadliest, Costliest, and Most Intense United States Tropical Cyclones from 1851 to 2006 and Other Frequently Requested Hurricane Facts

(as of Aug 11,2018 01:39:18 UTC – Details)

This technical memorandum lists the deadliest tropical cyclones in the United States during 1851-2006 and the costliest tropical cyclones in the United States during 1900-2006. The compilation ranks damage, as expressed by monetary losses, in three ways: 1) contemporary estimates; 2) contemporary estimates adjusted by inflation to 2006 dollars; and 3) contemporary estimates adjusted for inflation and the growth of population and personal wealth to 2006 dollars. In addition, the most intense hurricanes to make landfall in the United States during the 156-year period are listed. Some additional statistics on United States hurricanes of this and previous centuries, and tropical cyclones in general, are also presented.

Land of Storms is the fifth book in the Smaller Country series.
Sergeant Abi Collins has seen her share of killing. After being brutally attacked and left for dead, she has had enough. For the first time, Abi begins to imagine the possibility of a life with someone else, beyond the chaos and violence.
But Lorenzo Nguyen has a plan, and Sergeant Abi Collins is part of that plan. Thrust unwillingly back into the nightmare of militia dominated North Queensland, Abi is determined to focus on her own survival but is soon confronted with choices that she did not plan on having to make.

Phillip Tennison unveils his characters slowly, but finally we see more than just a glimpse of Abi Collins.
Land of Storms is a confronting tale of courage and determination set against a backdrop of post-apocalyptic ruin and chaos.
